About The Artist
Born 1969 in West Bengal, Bratin Khan studied painting at Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan. Influences of folk art and Bengal School are evident in the poetic renderings of the narratives in Bratin’s paintings. His temperas on paper and paintings on canvas as well as his fine line drawings and palette exude a light that seems to emerge from within. His curvatious figures appear languid as they emerge gracefully from their natural habitation or the world of Indian mythology. Appearing in a relaxed and seamless flow within the overall frame his figuration often featuring pretty females and surrounded by nature is marked for its beauty and balanced compositions. During his decade and a half long career, Bratin’s work has already been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows including those held at Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. Winner of the best painting award from the Indian Society of Oriental Art and Culture, his paintings are held in the collection of Sony Electronics, Japan; Sonodyme; and RPG Group India besides other private collections in India, USA, UK, Mauritius, Indonesia and Germany.
