This work references the duality in the Greek mythological tale of Icarus and Daedelus. They dreamt of flying and constructed wings to soar and reach the sun, an audacious dream indeed. The glue in their wings was wax and Icarus flew too close to the sun, the wax melted and he fell to the ground as his wings disintegrated. There is a deep metaphor in this. The value of our lives is in the fact that we can dream of the impossible and then work towards that dream relentlessly. From that initial audacious dream springs forth purpose and meaning, and a path on which to meditate on everyday, working towards it slowly and assuredly. Failures are constant and never-ending, in fact they are what add magic into our lives. If every action ended in success, the value of success would be so diminished that we would value it no longer. Thus the fruit of that rare success after a thousand failings is that much sweeter, that much more savoured. This then is the most audacious dream of utopia, in which each one of us start a fire inside of us, not happy or satisfied to lead uninspiring lives but to go deep inside of our inner selves to discover our truest potential. If each one of us worked with our truest possible sincerity towards this unearthing of ourselves, the world would transform into a vividly colourful and polychromatic experience.
