Angad Sodhi’s Rondo depicts views of a beach and seafront seen the aerial perspective of a seagull in this air. This work forms the central focal element of the work. This is a 2D representation of a beach and ocean, both of which have depth and dimension beyond the two dimensions of the canvas on which he has painted with acrylic paints. One can begin to imagine the objects on the beach and we shift from a bird’s eye view to a human scale view, pulling out all these objects from his painting and placing them as elements of scale and presence around his rondo. The 2D reveals the 3D hidden within it. It is a conversation as also a commentary on margins and edges, the broader collection to which this work belongs. The colours of the painting fl ow over and under the forms, establishing the datum (water’s edge), as well as the splashes, drips and tides of movement.
