Curator's Note
In this era of heightened domestic and global tensions perhaps it is important for us to rethink our past present and future as individuals as well as a collective unit in a holistic and yet diversified manner For this exhibition we bring a range of well known artists from across India here personal experiences and memories are points of departure or inspiration for the work and also address the concepts of collective history and/or memory
Memories are not permanent, they are made out of impressions and fragments that we unite together to make whole. The interpretation of our memories also changes over time. The past is never where we think we left it the quote scrutinizes the association between present and past, and, leads one contemplating over the future and how it will look back upon the present
The exhibition hinges over the multiple layers of our previous memories drawn from various perspectives and also presents the history of transformation and modification in how one has managed their memories, and how they finally re-senses them to combine them to our present situation
In Orson Welles masterpiece cinema Citizen Kane (1941) Kane ultimately asks us to consider our own mortality, the memories of us that will live on, and the extent to which someone can know us through those memories.
Title inspired by Salvador Dali s famous work of art The Persistence of Memory (1931).
