Constructing Narratives

Curator's Note

Architectural and urban design are influenced by new laws, that take into consideration  the increasing awareness of the impact of human activities on the environment. This is  long over-due given that our ‘Towers of Babel’ inevitably have written within each brick that “aligns its tops with the heavens,” the fall and the incompletion of that impossible dream, because it unfortunately struggles against rather than moves with nature. As the result of the global pandemic, COVID 19 and its variants, climate change and global warming, we are witnessing an unprecedented call to transform human society and its economies. It is that moment to reset the clock and reconfigure our relationship between people and nature that we are putting down as the moment of change that began with 2020 and will mark our human endeavour to bring about a healthy change, much more than pre-covid times. While leaders across the world discuss the importance and viability of this art reflect on a concern that was always part of the urban-subtext. Constructing Narratives, art in the new normal, is an exhibition that takes into consideration our re-alignment with the

forces of nature and marks down in direct and indirect, the metaphoric and the literal, in artistic terms the momentum for transformative action to address the major crises of our planet by maintaining nature and ecosystems.

As artists across the globe, we can reflect and respond to important questions like ‘why we create art, how we respond to art and how art is intrinsically linked to our interactions with the natural environment.’ As artists and as individuals we have been directly or indirectly affected by the Pandemic, by global climate change and the warning signals
sent out by our planet. Where earlier those pushing the agenda of ‘Blind Capitalism’, could get away by calling environmentalists as ‘alarmists’, they are indeed sitting up and taking note on how to change and how to adjust to the ‘new normal’. These are no longer just clever words put out on social media, we have to become part of the change
and creating, displaying and sharing artwork are definitely one of the important ways to reflect that transformation. Gallery Art Positive invites artists to the exhibition curated by Georgina Maddox, to showcase these ongoing concerns, that emerged on the Indian art scene.
