About The Artist
Nupur Kundu born in 1975, New Delhi. The artistic aspect of life struck her natural instinct by way of her obsession with painting and dancing in the formative years of her childhood. The cultural environment of Springdale’s School in Delhi nurtured her talent further.
She joined the College of Art, New Delhi in 1993 for her BFA degree in painting. The aesthetic environment of the college helped her realize her dream on a professional level. She also kept her dancing instinct alive by completing her Sangeet Bhaskar in Indian classical dance (Kathak), and has several dance performances to her credit.
Nupur has participated in several exhibitions both in India and abroad. Apart from exhibiting in India, her works have travelled to Dubai, Singapore, USA and Mauritius. She also held a solo art exhibition at the Art Indus, Santushti Complex, New Delhi in April 1999.
She has held two-man shows at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2001 and at Surya Gallery, Hyderabad in 2000. She has conducted several workshops in painting for the British Council, New Delhi.
Born in 1971, Sanatan Dinda is a first-class graduate in painting from the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata. Equally deft at painting, drawing, sculptures, mural making and installations, Sanatan’s work adorns an illusionary and spiritual tone. Keen on experimentation, his imagery includes ordinary men and women as well as Buddha and other icons that comes in layers with foliage, calligraphy and other markings in the background adding to their visual appeal. Though currently preoccupied with three dimensional sculptural paintings of figures that transcend the two-dimensional limitations of a canvas, his earlier work appeared more in abstraction and landscape format.
In his short career span, Sanatan has received many awards starting with inter college competitions to the prestigious Birla Academy award. His work has been shown all over India as well an in the US, Singapore, Dubai and London. Sculpture being his forte, he has been able to incorporate figures standing in relief from his beautifully executed canvases. He infuses his characters with a three-dimensional quality, which transcends the medium of an otherwise flat canvas, the deep cracks symbolising the harsh realities of life. He has exhibited extensively in India and internationally, in both group and solo shows and is now renowned for his skill in body-painting which is executed live.
