About The Artist
Born in 1954 Kolkata, Shipra Bhattacharya is a B.Sc. graduate, who later studied Fine Art at the College of Visual Arts, Kolkata, under the guidance of her teacher and mentor Shuvaprasanna whom she later married. During her formative years she worked on urban themes audemars piguet replica and the presence of men and women in city life. She created a protagonist out of a stylized woman figure who became the participant and spectator of the urban dramas. Her recent works show a clear departure from that phase as she moves from reality to fantasy. Women, both urban and rural, each with her secret passion seeking fulfilment of an inner void of unfulfilled desires, have been the artist's current muse. Her canvases often revolve around feminine figure entrapped within and encasing her dream world submerged in intricate renderings. In dense drawing, detailed imaging, smooth brushwork, glowing colors and dreamy ambience, she has managed to chalk out a distinct identity of her own and for her feminine figure occasionally seen upfront but mostly with her back to the viewer.
