About The Artist
Shaila Nambiar is best known for the humanised treatment of ordinary objects. Materials like metal, wood, paper and fabric find a way into her works following her thought process. She is also a strong propagator of gender equality and questions the forced idea of beauty on woman. Her art, which comprises of sculptural forms incorporates objects used by woman to draw fluctuating parallels between the expected and the unusual — challenging the role ascribed to women by traditional society. Forming and deforming of the object happens simultaneously. These sculptures or the objects meets the eye of the spectator as a product of rebellion.
