About The Artist
My works encompass diverse subjects and mediums, resulting in my oeuvre to be multi faceted. I tend to portray my ideas through the creation of structural forms. These forms are inspirations from organic and industrial architectural structures, human body and natural objects etc. Recently I had worked on a project based on the city of Bhubaneswar which represents the current issues of rapid urbanization that is slowly engulfing the architectural grandeur of the city’s historic temples. I have also been attracted to folk art and music culture and from my recent visits to the countryside of Santiniketan I have developed the series of works called ‘Rural Melody’ which has been inspired from two very iconic folk musical instruments. Terracotta as a medium justifies my idea of portraying them as elements of the rural realm. I am also interested in natural objects like sea shells and clamps and through my works I have tried to exemplify the structural grandeur of these shells. In most of my sculptures I have used paper as a medium which is fragile in nature but can also be treated as a malleable substance. The skeletal appearance of metal columns and frameworks of undergoing construction sites have always captivated me. According to me, these visuals stand testimony to the process of vertical expansion of a typical metropolis. The process of constructing an edifice excites me more than its finished look. These sculptures portray the beauty in the structural intricacies of multi-storeyed constructions and the interplay of positive and negative spaces. I also try to bring in an amalgamation of natural and industrial materials in my works. Though I depend on a primary concept, the procedure of creating a work is more playful and important to me.
