Sol means Sun, hence the word Solar. There is a hymn to the sun that my mother taught me when I was very young. I rote-learned it, without trying to understand its meaning. ॐ जपाकुसुमसंकाशं काश्यपेयं महाद्युतिम् तमोरिं सर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोिस्म िदवाकरम् || Many years later I understood its full import. Taken from the Navagraha Stotra, it is a hymn to the Sun God fl ying on a chariot of 7 (number of days in a week) or 4 horses (cardinal directions), sustaining and nurturing all life on Earth. But suppose we need his light in the night? Or in the darkest hours of our lives? We are sons and daughters of the sun ourselves. Shaped and formed by the grain and fruit he blesses and the energy we derive from him, each one of us has a tiny and brilliant sun burning within us, sometimes unknown to ourselves. If we tap into the energy and light of that innermost sun, we can pierce the veil of any darkness and overcome any challenge in our lives. This is the ultimate message of salutation to the sun, and an exhortation to our own selves
