About The Artist
Born in 1968, Mumbai. Viveek Sharma graduated in fine art specializing in painting from Sir JJ School of Arts Mumbai. His work mostly paintings in oils on canvas comes in a photorealistic mode and is a reflection of the surrounding political and social scenario. Featuring important people, popular icons and moments of history his impressive body of artwork re-contextualizes them for today’s audience. His earlier works were focused on sketching, portraiture and illustrations, followed by some experimentation in abstraction, then he finally found his nemesis in narrative painting which he continues to create more often in large format. There is an engaging depiction of the street processions and celebrations as well as the slums of Dharavi amongst others in his work that has found him a place amongst the more cutting edge artists of today’s generation. Winner of several awards including the Maharashtra Police Award for his painting and Maharashtra State Award for Artistic Excellence, his work has been exhibited extensively in various Indian metros as well as with international galleries at Dusseldorf, Zurich and New York. Viveek has also participated in several art camps and workshops. His work is held in important private and corporate collections within India and overseas including a commissioned artwork that he did for Troubadour, Tokyo. Viveek lives and works in Mumbai.
