About The Artist
Mayank Shyam (b.1987) was initiated into painting by his late father Jangarh Singh Shyam, well known Gond artist. His works attempts to depict the various traditions and the stories of the Gond community, such as the story of creation and survival. He has had his solo exhibition ‘Yesterday Today Tomorrow’,Arushi Arts, New Delhi (2019). His works were a part of exhibitions 'Cartography of Narratives', Gallery Latitude 28 at Bikaner House, New Delhi (2019); ‘Ascending Roots’, Ojas Art Gallery, New Delhi (2018); Must Gallery, New Delhi (2015); ‘Yeh Image Mahan – India meets Bharat’, CIMA Gallery, Kolkata (2010); ‘In search of Context’, CIMA Gallery, Kolkata and Chemould Gallery, Mumbai (2009); ‘Kolkata Freedom: Sixty years after Indian Independence’, CIMA Gallery, Kolkata and Museum Gallery, Mumbai (2008).is works were included in the Indian Contemporary Art auction at Sotheby’s, New York. In 2006, Mayank was conferred the State Award by the Hasta ShilpaEvam Hathkargha Vikas Nigam, Bhopal.
