About The Artist
Japani Shyam
Born in 1988, Japani Shyam is the daughter of well-known Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam. She is famous for having created a new school of art in India, The Jangarh Kalam School, referring to the artist's pictorial style which focuses on the representation of deities fake taschen kaufen and animal portraits. She became known by the famous exhibition "Magicians of the Earth" which took place in Pompidou in 1989. Japani follows the footsteps of her father while overcoming his style to establish her very own. Her work focuses on traditional rituals and nature. She was awarded with Kamala Devi Award in 1999, State Silver Award (Folk Art) by Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation in 2016 followed by the FICCI Young Achiever’s Award in 2018. The artist lives and works in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
