About The Artist
I am deeply fascinated by the historical and aesthetic dimensions of vintage nautical maps, my work explores the intricate interplay between cartography and the elements of the sea. My creations draw upon the rich traditions of early navigators who meticulously crafted maps without the aid of modern technology, transforming what we now see as vintage artifacts into vital tools for exploration and discovery. In my work, I seamlessly blend world maps and nautical charts, using screen-printing techniques to layer these elements in both the foreground and background. This interplay of maps creates a visual dialogue between the known and the unknown, the explored and the unexplored. It reflects the complexity of human experience and the continuous interaction between our internal and external worlds. My use of specific maritime symbols is deliberate and evocative. The compass, a crucial navigational instrument, signifies direction and the pursuit of one's goals. The lighthouse, a beacon of safety and guidance, represents the journey towards home or the achievement of one's aspirations. The anchor, a symbol of stability, grounds my work, offering a sense of security amidst the vast and unpredictable ocean. These elements are more than mere decorations; they are integral to the storytelling aspect of my art. They encapsulate the essence of maritime exploration, embodying the hopes, challenges, and triumphs of seafarers. Through my work, I aim to connect the viewer with the timeless allure of the sea, that vintage nautical maps represent.
