About The Artist
Damayanti is an interdisciplinary artist; continuing her creative practice for more than five years after her six years of academic training in visual arts. She got her initial training in painting from the College of Art and Design, University of Burdwan, West Bengal in 2016. Followed by another degree course MFA from the S. N. School of Arts and Communication, Central University of Hyderabad in 2018, where she expanded the practice from painting to installation art, using 'space' as the canvas, experimenting with different visual mediums like video, photographs, sound and text, along with conventional painting and sculpture mediums. Working among varied range of artistic practice such as: working as an assistant art-director in films, collaboration with performance artists, costume designing, stage designing for theater production and several workshops with traditional 'Dhokra' artisans, over the years she developed her understanding of material aesthetic on a niche level.Her work has been recognized through KHOJ International Artist Residency in "Peers 2018: Young emerging artists of India". She had participated as a seenographer in the production “To the starts" by French play director and writer Jonathan Schattle. She had participated in several public art events, open studios and art exhibitions. In the recent year, she is working as a studio resident, at a community studio space, named Vis_A_Vis artist studio, at Vadodara. Through 2023-24, her works were displayed in the open studio of Baroda Art Trails, in the show ‘Preposition 0.2’ by 079 gallery, Ahmadabad, in MAIR’s open studio, and APRE Art Gallery at Mumbai, at Space Studio’s summer residency open day and a site specific installation: ‘Greenhouse Museum’; were displayed in Abhivyakti’s Edition-5, at Ahmadabad.
