“We lived in refugee camps for a long time after the exodus. When I was pregnant, once, I remember, my mother tried to help me change my clothes, and a part of my skin peeled off in that severe heat. I suffered a lot for many years, but now I’ve found my peace. I wish no one suffers the way we did.
I feel the presence of Kashmir whenever I see a Chinar tree. I have planted many Chinars, feeling that I am spreading love, care, and positivity by doing so. This one is a 20-year-old tree that I planted it on my daughter’s birthday. My dear grandchild now waters all the Chinars at home. The Chinar is a godly, sacred tree. My father used to worship under one. I hope the next generation remembers and follows the tradition and cultural values”.
